Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Lead

Reporting To

Finance Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial resources (finance) of the assigned project (or section) to maximise planned gross margin through the placement and control of contracts and subcontracts
  • Provide commercial expertise to contracts, to include the production and submission of valuations, claims, budget monitoring, and contract/workstream performance data
  • Assess, review and mitigate commercial and contractual risks
  • Support the authorisation and submission of project variations. To authorise the placement of contracts, subcontracts, material and plant orders
  • Maximise cash flow through the control, measurement and valuation of work, and the invoicing of customers and payment of suppliers
  • Value work executed by sub-contractors and certify interim and final payments
  • Ensure contract files and records are maintained and keep up to date
  • Ensure final accounts are prepared timely and accurately
  • Weekly update on financial position and report to senior management
  • Provide leaderships on commercial remit to site teams

Your Skills and Knowledge

  • Educated to Degree level in an engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Ideally you will have a background in telecoms delivery and or utilities
  • Knowledge and Experience of Purchase Ledgers and mis system
  • Have a full UK Driving Licence

Pay and Benefits

  • Salary £40,000 – £50,000 depending on experience

Site Agents

Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Carry out Joint Site Meetings with client and other relevant stakeholders
  • Ability to survey and programme work streams for supply chain
  • Provide updates on a regular basis to works control and noticing department
  • Co –ordinate and record multiple site meeting with varying authorities
  • Complete material sample audits where required.
  • Carry out daily tool box audits and safety audits
  • Carry out in-progress audits and coach crews on site
  • Ability to self-manage and work on own initiative managing daily targets for sample inspections
  • Ensure all permit conditions are being met on site
  • Keep accurate daily records of works planned and issues encountered, keep updated dairy
  • Report daily to the line manager of outputs, problems, issues
  • Carry out other duties as requested by the line manager
  • Report findings real time via a handheld device in conjunction with clients and works control

Skills and Experience

  • Experience and a strong understanding of the SROH
  • IT Skills to liaise with group works control
  • Experience in working with site operatives
  • An understanding of permit to work Schemes and noticing
  • Experience of demonstrating good communication skills and of prioritising works effectively
  • Experience of demonstrating working to tight timescales effectively
  • Experience of implementing, following and amending procedures for the purpose of service delivery as dictated by the client
  • Ability to understand client’s quality requirements

Professional Experience

  • Experience of working within a team
  • Experience of managing cabling / utility contracts preferable telecoms
